About The Honey

The honey begins alongside the beautiful Ohinewai River in central New Zealand. A family business, Clive Sergent learnt the craft of beekeeping from his father.

Clive spent his childhood learning how to care for bees and farm honey; feeding nectar to bees during winter, taking care of pollination and caring for Queen Bees. His family began making Mānuka Honey in 2004, and now around 80% of all honey it produces is from the special Mānuka plant.

Caring for our Bees

THE HONEY, we care for our bees and our environment. Both are vital to a humming eco-system. Honeybees are in decline across the world – due to a range of factors including climate change, the Varroa mite, and the use of pesticides.

Honeybees not only make delicious honey, but they also play a vital role in our environment, pollinating essential plants and flowers. At THE HONEY, we work to promote the protection of honeybees, to help sustain and grow their population; because if it’s good for our honey, it’s good for the world.

Improving Wellbeing

Māori have long-recognised the healing properties of the Mānuka plant, used in traditional Māori medicine.

Due to New Zealand’s food regulations, we are unable to talk about any possible health applications and effects of Mānuka honey; however, clinical studies show it is effective against a wide range of bacteria.

Dr Peter Molan, a renowned scientist, discovered the unique antibacterial properties in Mānuka Honey when applied topically. You can read more about this here.

Mānuka Honey’s magical properties are used in a range of beauty products and can help soften and soothe dry skin, as well as plump and hydrate the skin.
